Because of you, we’re able to promote our "Balloons Blow" project across the entire State of South Carolina to educate the public on the harm of balloon releases to marine life, wildlife, and our ecosystems - as well as help push for legislation making it illegal.

The continued success of the Oyster Roast and Bloody Mary Festival highlights the growing community commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable coastal practices.

The Sea Beyond Foundation believes in recycling what we can. It may be more work, but we strongly believe in doing our part and setting an example for other events in our area.

Please remember when recycling oyster shells, keep them trash-free—no napkins, plastic, or food scraps. Clean shells mean healthier reefs and cleaner water for everyone. ♻️✨

Oyster beds are natural water purifiers—filtering out pollutants and excess nutrients—while reducing shoreline erosion and building thriving reef habitats for marine life. 🦪🌊

The Sea Beyond Foundation takes home a 1st place win at the 2026 Murrells Inlet Soup Off, hosted by SBB! This year’s soup was Tom Kai Gai, a spicy Thai soup of chicken, mushrooms, coconut milk, Tom Yum, and red curry paste. So many attendees complimented the taste and heat, and even came back for seconds! Check out our fancy soup pot on display next weekend at the 12th annual Oyster Roast and Bloody Mary Contest.

Beach Sweep/River Sweep is South Carolina’s largest one-day volunteer waterway cleanup event. Every 3rd Saturday in September since 1988, thousands of South Carolinians clear beaches, rivers, lakes, marshes, and swamps of aquatic debris.

The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium leads the beach cleanup efforts, while SCDNR leads the inland cleanups. The Sweep takes place in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy.
